What happens to your journal entries when you cancel your subscription
Updated over a week ago

A notary's journal contains some of the most sensitive forms of PII (personally identifiable information) out there, and your position as a public servant requires that you take a great deal of precaution with regards to what happens to those journal entries. Let's take a look at what happens to your journal entries when you cancel your subscription or your subscription has otherwise ended.

Ways your subscription can end

There are a few ways in which your active subscription might be ended, so let's take a look at those.

Defining an active subscription

To clarify, an active subscription refers to your account being in good standing, having made a successful payment for one of our recurring subscriptions, and today's date being before the end of the billing cycle for the recurring subscription you paid for. For example, if you paid for a yearly subscription on January 20th, 2024, and today's date is before January 20th of 2025, you are considered to be an active user in good standing.

Ending your subscription via cancellation

The primary way your subscription may be ended is by canceling it via our website. You can log on to app.juratinc.com, head over to the "Subscription" tab on the left side of the navigation bar, and cancel it from there.

When canceling your subscription, your account will remain active and in good standing through the rest of your current billing cycle. For example if your billing cycle for a monthly subscription is the 10th of each month and you cancel your subscription on the 20th, your subscription will be active through the 10th of the following month, at which point your account will not longer be active.

Subscription dues are not refunded on a prorated basis. To view our refund policy, please read our terms of service

Subscription ends due to failed/missed payments

Failed or missed payments are unfortunate and happen often, regardless of creditworthiness and payment history. The most common reasons that a recurring charge fails are:

  • An expired credit/debit card

  • A new credit/debit card was issued (due to fraud, customer request, etc)

  • Insufficient funds in the account associated with the card on file

These situations happen to everyone, so we advise our users to stay diligent with their account balances and the status of their card on file to ensure that a payment doesn't fail.

Recurring charges happen prior to the end of the billing cycle to ensure that our users have enough time to rectify any payment issues that arise.

The payment schedule is as follows:

  • Monthly subscriptions - The first recurring charge is attempted 7 days prior to the end of the billing cycle.

    • For example, if you signed up for a monthly subscription on January 20th, future charges will be attempted on the 13th of each subsequent month.

  • Yearly subscriptions - The first recurring charge is attempted 14 days prior to the end of the billing cycle.

    • For example, if you signed up for a yearly subscription on January 20th, future charges will be attempted on January 4th of the following year

If your payment fails, you will be alerted via email. We will attempt to charge your account again within 3 days of the failed payment. If your payment continues to fail and you are no longer inside of your subscription's billing period, your account will be considered canceled.

You can quickly reactivate your subscription at any time but logging in to app.juratinc.com and fixing the issue that prevented your charge from succeeding, such as updating your payment method so that future charge attempts will succeed.

All subscription related actions, including upgrading from a trial, canceling your subscription, and all things related to payment methods are all handled via the web-app and NOT the mobile apps.

What happens to your journal when your account is canceled

When your account is canceled for any reason (including the scenarios described above), you will experience the following:

  • You will lose access to the mobile apps. Any attempt to log in to the mobile app will fail, and you will be alerted that you no longer have an active subscription

  • You will still be able to log in to app.juratinc.com, where you can manage your payment methods and subscription options

  • You will lose view/export functionality of your journal entries

  • You will lost the ability to create new journal entries

While you may lose access to view your journal entries, your entries will not be deleted. We do not delete a notary's journal entries under any circumstances related to having a canceled subscription, unless specifically instructed otherwise. This means that your entries will be safely stored on our secure servers regardless of your account status.

We retain journal entries even when an account is canceled to prevent the accidental deletion or disposal of important sensitive information withheld in the notary journal.
