How does offline functionality work with the Notary eJournal?
The mobile application has a dedicated offline mode for using the application when you are in areas of poor connection. The web-app does not function offline, and requires a constant connection to the internet.
In most cases, you will only find yourself in offline mode when using the app in areas where your device has poor connection to wifi or cellular service. In these circumstances, you will automatically be placed in offline mode
Note - any feature that requires connectivity will not function while in an offline state, ie “Detect current location” will not function. ID scanning will function while offline
Can you still create entries while offline?
Yes, you are still able to create and save journal entries. They will be stored locally on your device until you are able to reestablish a connection, return to a state of being online, and then sync your journal to the servers. To sync your journal to the server once you are online, click on the refresh button seen on the top right of the home screen
When creating an entry offline, upon reaching the last step of the entry creation process, you will click the “complete” button like usual and will be presented with an alert that tells you that the entry was not able to be uploaded to the server due to connectivity issues. The entry will be marked as “complete” and will then need to be uploaded to the server when you regain connection to the internet.
How did my app get in to offline mode?
You can manually enter an offline (local) state by using the toggle button, but can also find yourself in an offline state if your device has connection issues, if you are in an area with poor service, or otherwise lose connection to our servers. In the event that you are in an offline state and want to go back to a connected (online) state, you will need to manually toggle the App Mode button. The system will not automatically reattempt server connection
Important - Do not forget to upload your completed drafts to the server next time you regain internet connection. The Notary eJournal will NOT automatically force-upload any pending completed drafts
Test offline functionality from home
Open the app & log in
Once on the landing page of your journal, toggle the App Mode button off to enable offline mode
You will have reduced functionality but can still create and save (locally) journals entries.
When finished testing how the app works while offline, toggle the App Mode button back on and establish internet connection to return to a normal state within the app
